Introduction to Affirmations

Our minds are very powerful and our words have power, whether or not we elect to speak them out loud. Words we think have as much power as the words we write or speak. The words we use can elicit a powerful positive response or serve to drop people to the depths of despair. Our words can encourage or berate and once they are in the world, while a retraction can be issued, the damage cannot be easily repaired.

Life can be challenging, offering many obstacles that make us question our value as individuals. Words spoken by others in moments of anger, stress, or simply lack of forethought, result in us second-guessing our abilities. We begin to wonder if we are smart enough, if we have the ability to support our families financially, or if we are likeable enough. This list of vulnerabilities will vary from one person to another, based on where you are in your life and what circumstances you are currently experiencing.

When you begin to hear unkind thoughts playing in your head, this would be a perfect time to begin using affirmations.

How do Affirmations Work?

An affirmation is a positive statement attesting to your capabilities to achieve that which you previously doubted you could achieve!

You Can Heal Your Life was released in 1984 by Louise L Hay, she was my introduction to affirmations in the past decade there has been a huge influx of affirmations. Her book explained the purpose of affirmations and gave some affirmations to help heal you determine what was at the "core" or "root" of the problem. Once you understood what the issue was, you could select an affirmation or more than one affirmation to work with to help "heal" your life.

How can I write an affirmation?

Begin your statement with “I believe” or “I affirm”, “I love”, “I embrace” or other similar positive terms. Build in what you desire your reality to look like as the remainder of the statement.

Ensure you do not include negative words like "but" as this confuses the universe and makes it more difficult for you to see your positive reality come to fruition.

Examples of affirmations:

  • I eat foods that nourish my body.

  • I embrace my like-minded individuals who support others in need through charitable acts.

  • I love the time I spend in nature and act as a steward for the creatures residing there.

  • I attract the resources needed meet my financial requirements with ease and grace.

What if you don't want to write your own affirmation? Don't worry, you are covered!
